Fwd-arrow GTDBC will be Racing in World Championship in Nottingham, England (06/0599)

Wanted: experienced masters paddlers for World Championships Team.

We are putting together a Toronto-based masters mixed team to compete in the Dragon Boat World Championships in Nottingham, England August 26-29, 1999.  This is the first time that a separate masters category has been established for this top level international competition.  The national men’s open team will also compete in Nottingham.

All paddlers on the team must have turned 40 by January 1, 1999.   While we are sounding out corporate sponsorships, there is no guarantee of financial backing.  The likely cost per paddler if no sponsorship comes through, is $1,600 to $2,000.  Paddlers must be available for team selection and practices in Toronto during July and August, and to travel with the team August 23-30.

If you are interested in trying out for the team, please contact Denny Creighton by fax at (416) 368-3322, or, preferably, by e-mail at dewkLHOOQ@aol.com, A.S.A.P.  Please identify yourself, provide a contact e-mail or other coordinates, and indicate relevant paddling experience (dragon boat and other), current dragon boat team, and the side on which you paddle.

3, All prospective members must do a fitness test (a rowing erg, a resistance push or pull, and possibly a run).  We are aiming for the middle of may for this test.
4, The paddles with the top fitness test results will be evaluated by the coaches for one water practice and the team will be picked after that.
