Fwd-arrow 2000 Club Crews -- Sweden crew practices (07/17/2000)

The practices for the Club Crews (Sweden festival) are scheduled for every Monday and Thursday evening from 8 to 9pm, starting July 17.  All crew members please try your best to attend these practices.

Fwd-arrow 2000 Club Crews update for Malmo Festival, Sweden  (07/11/2000)

The trip to Sweden is on for the Master's and the Men's B team.  Cost for air flight is $950.00.  Hotel costs will range from $30.00 to $60.00 per day, depending on availability.  Total cost should be about Ca$1500.00 per person.  The Club will subsidize $350 per person from our sponsorship, which will bring the final cost down to about $1150.00 per person.  Flight departure will be on Sun., August 6.  For the return trip, there are choices of August 15, 16 or 17th, with the majority returning on the 16th.  There is a meeting to be held on Thursday, July 13, at 8:00pm at the Sunnyside Cafe for all interested in going.  Bring a cheque or credit card with you to cover the air fare.  We need to get confirmation as soon as possible, so please attend the July 13 meeting or contact Don Kelcher by email.

The Club has decided to send the Mixed Master's and the Men's B team because they have expressed the most interests.  Any team supporters and/or spouses of team members are also welcomed to join our trip at the cost of $1500.  As we don't expect all members from both teams to be able to make it to the trip, any remaining seats from both crews will be open to paddlers that are interested in joining our trip.

Fwd-arrow Congratulations to the great performances of the GTDBC Club Crews in Vancouver  (06/20/2000)

Please join us in congratulating our GTDBC Mixed and Women's teams in their excellent performances in the Vancouver Dragon Boat Race Festival, June 17/18.  Our Mixed team took the Vancouver team by storm.  The Women's team lost the first race by about 3 feet, but won the second race by about the same margin.  However, due to the discrepancy in manual timing, the Vancouver Women's team (the False Creek Women) was awarded the total time victory.  This is still under protest.  We'd like to thank and congratulate both Women's teams for the two terrific and exciting races, and for their amazing efforts.

Fwd-arrow Important Festival Announcements (06/05/2000)

To All 2000 Dragon Boat Team Captains,

We have some important announcements and reminders for all teams entered in the 2000 festival:

Paddles Certification - If you own your own paddles that have not been certified in previous years, you can bring them down to Sunnyside during the week of June 5th to 12th and we will do the certification for you.

Parade of Dragons - This year's parade will take place on Sunday, June 18th starting at 12 noon at Queen's Park and finishing at City Hall. This parade is an opportunity for each team to give their sponsors or organization extra visibility. If you wish to be part of this fun event, please e-mail us to let us know.  (More details and parade map.)

Rally Party - The Rally Party is happening on Thursday June 22nd at the Paradise Restaurant on Center Island. The reception starts at 6 p.m. with the buffet dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $26 per person, which includes the cost of the ferry ride. Last year we had close to 1000 people turn out for this fun event with all sorts of contests for teams (Best T-shirts, Best Champs, etc.) and lots of great music & dancing until the last ferry departed from the island. Don't miss the boat for this great event. Download and fill out the attached ticket order form now (MS Word97 .doc format)!  If you can't download the form, please email us or call our office at (416)598-8945 for faxed copies.

Tents - Any team that wishes to rent a tent (10' X 10') for both days of the festival, can do so for $300 plus GST. Please download and fill out the attached tent order form (MS Word97 .doc format).

Summer Program - Our great training and coaching program is continuing for the summer at Sunnyside, the best location in Toronto starting on July 4th until September 7th. If you have not registered yet, you should do so before the time slots are all filled. We will go every Monday to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Captains Meeting - All teams must have a representative at the very important pre-race Captains' meeting to be held on Monday June 19th, at 6 p.m. at the Sunnyside Pavilion.

Good luck to all teams.

Fred Heese
Festival Manager
